New knowledge about some of the most important aspects of life is at our fingertips and the opportunities and enthusiasm are contagious.
Discoveries and understanding about microbiology and related areas of scientific knowledge hold great promise for the future of millions of people.
Many of the people on our Board are well-advanced in the exciting new horizons; others, like myself, are trying to catch up as quickly as possible. Of course, even the most advanced, recognize that humility is the only acceptable attitude towards a deeper understanding of nature.
The practical application of this emerging knowledge by those who own and work on the land is fundamental to this process. The Texas Organic Farming Research Center is to serve as a catalyst to encourage farmers, ranchers, gardeners and all those who love the land, to join in a disciplined and carefully documented demonstration of the lessons that are here for all to learn.
This history of our activities to date will provide a very brief summary of the 16 months that have passed since we were organized. We hope that the next twelve months will provide new opportunities for everyone to participate in the plans that are outlined in this report. We welcome your suggestions and guidance.
Sincerely,
William B. Hilgers, Chair
